Municipal corporation delhi (mcd) is the mess nowadays no one knows. From december almost 2 months already passed mayor is not elected yet what’s wrong with mcd take a look?

Delhi is one of the largest MCD in the worlds in India it is largest it is elected by delhi voters. In January 2012 UPA government split it into 3 parts of smaller mcds north delhi municipal corporation south delhi municipal corporation east delhi municipal corporation

In 2022 the central government introduce the unification bill of 3 mcds union government approved delhi municipal corporation (amendment) bill to merge three mcd both house pass the bill 

2022 elections

Mcd now have 250 wards delhi have to elect 250 councillars of delhi the results were declared on 7 december 2022 in which aam admi party won 134 seats Bhartiya janta party won 104 seats congress won 9 seats aap won elections after 15 years the whole mess start when bjp allege aap and aap allege bjp for scams and excessive usage of powers whome get more powers and who is the owner delhi ?

Delhi is union territory of india if we look at administrative powers delhi has its own legislature lieutenant governor the council ministers and the chief minister along with this delhi have seprate municipal corporation mcd

Centre vs delhi government every next day we see in media workers of both parties protest against each other for centre state policies when delhi government introduce any policy the lieutenant governor has power to stop that governer is appointed by centre government if we talk about mcd the budget is passed by delhi government if mcd have different party government the dispute starts .

 

Current scenario

App admi party won the election with 134 seats in mcd in that aap have 3 mps  13 mlas who have voting rights total 150 votes in favour but the mayor is not elected yet maybe bjp trying to stop or long procedure takes place aap moves to supreme court for quick mayor election by which the city get its new mayor as soon as possible

Supreme court on plea

Sc to hear plea on mayor election on 3^rd feb petition sought for timely election of deputy mayor and mayor gave supreme court agreed to hear on Friday aam admi party mayor candidate shelly Oberoi petition filed by advocate Shadan farasat presented before bench headed by CJI Dhananjay y Chandrachud aap leaders appear as petitioners  told the court matter relates to delhi mayor elections justice Dipankar Dutta ordered petition to be hear on 3^rd February

 

Aap spokesperson saurabh Bhardwaj on Friday said that aap express gratitude to the SCI for scheduling a prompt hearing 

“ The whole country knows the AAP wanted to hold the mayoral elections but the BJP is seeking to illegally cling to power in MCD. We have been forced to seek Supreme Court intervention to end BJP’s illegal control of MCD. The Supreme Court should give strict orders to the BJP’s central government and the MCD administration so that the new government is may take over in the civic body. Aldermen do not have the right to vote in the constitution and the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act,” Bhardwaj said.
